This training course provides instruction covering specific topics related to welding inspection including: Documents Governing Welding Inspection and Qualification, Metal Properties, Destructive Testing, and Welding Metallurgy for the Welding Inspector.
Course objectives include:
- Identify the documents that govern procedure qualification and welder qualification and explain the requirements of drawings, codes, standards, and specifications.
- Describe the effects that common alloying elements have in steel, and compare destructive testing methods in terms of the material properties they measure and how they are conducted.
- Describe the changes that occur in metals when joined through the welding process and recognize how mechanical properties can be affected throughout the process of metal solidification. Describe the three most common crystal structures in metals, and interpret an Iron-Carbon Phase Diagram. Calculate welding heat input and carbon equivalent content. Identify types of heat treatment applications and explain methods of relieving stress from metals.
